Eku Energy Acquires 400 MW / 1,600 MWh Dion BESS Project in Lower Saxony, Germany from NION

Eku Energy has entered the German market with the acquisition of the Dion battery storage project in Lamspringe, Lower Saxony, from developer NION. The 400 MW / 1,600 MWh project, directly connected to the transmission grid with grid-forming and black-start capability, is one of the largest BESS developments in Germany. Commissioning is planned for end of 2029, with NION continuing development to financial close.

Marks Eku Energy's entry into the German market, expanding its international presence to six markets worldwide. NION will remain responsible for project development through to financial close, while Eku Energy takes strategic control over development, design and technology. Eku Energy is jointly owned by British Columbia Investment Management Corporation and a fund managed by Macquarie Asset Management (MAM), which manages AUD 720 billion. Eku Energy plans to open a German office in 2027 and is pursuing partnerships across the energy value chain, particularly in storage and long-term power offtake and marketing models.
