BW ESS has acquired the 250 MW / 1,000 MWh Yanco BESS project in Riverina, New South Wales from ACEnergy. The ready-to-build project connects to the Yanco 132 kV substation with CATL as System Integrator and ACLE Services as BoP contractor. Construction commences later in 2026, with commercial operation planned for 2028, underpinned by a long-term capacity swap.

Technology details
250 MW / 1,000 MWh battery energy storage system connecting to the Yanco 132 kV substation. CATL appointed as System Integrator; ACLE Services as Balance of Plant (BoP) contractor. Both will also provide long-term O&M services. Site construction commencing later in 2026, with commercial operation planned for 2028. Expected to supply approximately 430,000 homes with electricity for 4 hours.

ACEnergy developed the project from origination to ready-to-build, securing land, planning approval, grid connection and all key project rights. This is ACEnergy's fifth large-scale BESS development to reach financial close. Project revenues underpinned by a capacity swap providing long-term contracted cashflow. BW ESS's Australian portfolio encompasses 1.3 GWh in commissioning, 1 GWh entering construction and approximately 2 GW of greenfield pipeline. Existing community commitments include a AUD 3 million Voluntary Planning Agreement with Leeton Shire Council.
