Technology details
The portfolio includes the 240 MW Cockenzie BESS project in East Lothian (conditional acquisition) and the 57 MW Monet’s Garden BESS project in North Yorkshire (completed acquisition). Both projects are designed for two-hour duration with potential future duration extensions.
Power purchase agreement (PPA)
Battery storage projects generate revenue through grid services, capacity mechanisms and trading rather than long-term power purchase agreements.
Additional information
With these transactions, GRID has acquired or conditionally acquired 397 MW across three of the five projects outlined in its Three-Year Plan. The Cockenzie acquisition remains conditional on receiving an acceptable Gate 2 grid connection offer from the National Energy System Operator. Monet’s Garden forms a combined 107 MW site with the existing 50 MW York project, while Elland 2 and the operational 50 MW Elland project together create a 150 MW site. Initial NESO notifications indicate all pipeline projects are expected to receive Gate 2 protected connection offers with connection dates between 2026 and 2030.
